Concealed roller blind dropping from a slim ceiling recess above frameless glass in a Hyde Park living room

Concealed & Recessed Blinds

Fabric from a slim ceiling slot, hardware fully hidden — when raised, the window is glass and nothing else.

Who this is for

Architect-designed and recently renovated Hyde Park homes — frameless glass, double-volume living wings, minimalist detailing where a visible pelmet or bracket would spoil the line. It's the same instinct behind the frameless glass itself: nothing extra to look at.

New builds and major renovations are the ideal case, because the recess can be planned into the ceiling from the start. Retrofit is still possible on an existing Hyde Park or Dunkeld-era home, using a surface bulkhead or a slim cassette pelmet colour-matched to the ceiling — a little less invisible, but close.

What matters technically

  • Recess depth runs roughly 110–150mm depending on the tube and fabric drop — we confirm the exact figure for your system at the free measure, never a guess made on site by eye
  • Almost always motorised — reaching a hand into a ceiling slot rather defeats the purpose of hiding it
  • Coordinates with downlights, aircon slots and curtain pelmets, which is why involving us at drawing stage saves a rework later

The best time to call

The earlier we're in the drawing stage, the cleaner the result — a builder who knows the recess dimensions before the ceiling closes up will thank you for it. If the house is already built, don't rule it out: a well-detailed retrofit cassette still reads as clean and considered, just not quite invisible.

"Shading designed into the ceiling, not bolted on after." That's the whole pitch — and on a double-volume Hyde Park living room, it photographs exactly as well as it sounds.

The figure, out loud

A concealed system sits above a surface-mounted blind for a reason: you are buying an assembly engineered to vanish into a ceiling pocket and still track true. A square metre of it, hung and working, runs R1,600 to R3,000 operated by hand. Motorised — which is where nearly every recessed installation lands, since a chain rather undoes the point — that square metre runs R3,200 to R5,000.

Small openings price to a minimum, because the pocket detail, the brackets and the setting-out take the same care at any width. And these are planning figures only: the recess is measured, the buildability confirmed and the price written down before anything is ordered or any ceiling is opened.

Where we fit these

Concealed systems, planned in early across the area.

From extensive renovations in Sandhurst to a heritage-era retrofit in Dunkeld, and new-build glazing in Illovo and Melrose & Melrose Arch — recess depth and motor points sorted before the ceiling closes.
