Double-volume living rooms, stair voids and full-height steel-frame sliders are the Hyde Park signature — and most of them are simply too wide, too heavy or too high to reach with a chain. Motorisation isn't an add-on here so much as the practical way to operate the glass at all: one button closes a six-metre wall of blinds instead of six separate pulls, and a blind above a stairwell finally has a control that doesn't need a ladder.
It's also the quiet upgrade that photographs beautifully — no cords, no chains, no visible mechanism, just fabric that moves when you ask it to.
Rechargeable battery motors need no wiring and retrofit cleanly into an existing home — charge every few months from a USB-style charger. It's the default for apartments, renovations, and any blind you don't want an electrician for.
Wired 220V motors suit new builds and larger renovations: permanent power, no charging cycle, and the right choice for big, heavy systems and exterior products like awnings and roller shutters. An electrician and some early planning are worth it on a project this size.
Spans too wide or heavy for a chain, blinds above stair voids and double volumes, concealed ceiling-recess systems, exterior venetians, awnings and zip screens, and any multi-blind wall of glass where "one button, several blinds" changes how often you actually use them.
No dangling chain is the most child-safe operation there is, full stop. Quality motors are quiet, not silent, and carry multi-year guarantees. Battery motors do need that periodic charge — we set the expectation clearly at quote stage so there are no surprises after installation.
There is no standalone figure for motorisation; it always rides on the blind beneath it. Across everything we hang here, a square metre of motorised system runs between R2,500 and R7,500 — an interior roller at the plain end, a concealed or exterior system at the considered end, the rest placed by product and by span. Sensors, wall switches and multi-channel handsets appear as their own lines.
Small openings price to a minimum, and on a window within easy reach a motor is often not worth what it costs — we will say so rather than write it in. The figure per opening follows the measure, on paper, first.
