Venetian Blinds — Aluminium & Timber

The most adjustable window treatment there is — full view, filtered light, or full privacy, all at any height.

The adjustability argument

A roller is open or closed by degree; a venetian steers light by direction. Tilt the slats up for glare-free daylight, tilt down for privacy from a neighbour's upper floor, or close flat for full dark. On a Hyde Park home with a garden that moves through sun and jacaranda shade across the day, that hour-by-hour control matters more than it sounds like it should.

Aluminium venetians

Slats in 25mm — crisp, the most popular width — or a bolder 50mm with fewer lines across the window. They're the moisture-proof option for bathrooms, kitchens and laundries, where fabric eventually fails. A huge colour range including woodlook finishes keeps them budget-friendly without looking it.

Timber & bamboo venetians

50mm basswood or bamboo slats bring warmth that aluminium can't fake — the natural choice for sash windows, studies, formal rooms and any older Hyde Park home where "real material" is part of the point. Keep them out of high-steam rooms; a quality lacquer handles normal humidity without trouble. They're heavier than aluminium, so very wide windows are best split or ladder-tape supported rather than run as one unbroken span.

Motorised tilt

Premium aluminium lines offer motorised tilt — useful on a hard-to-reach window, or simply grouped into the same automation schedule as the rest of the room. See our page on motorised blinds & automation for how that fits together.

The figure, out loud

A square metre of finished venetian, hung and working. In aluminium, 25 or 50 mm slat: R1,000 at the plain end, R1,500 at the considered end on a wand or cord, and R2,500 to R3,600 once the tilt is on a motor. In timber and bamboo, which cost more because they weigh and finish differently: R1,600 to R2,600 by hand, R3,000 to R4,500 motorised.

Very small openings price to a minimum, since headrail, brackets and fitting hours hardly move with the window. Read the figures as a way to plan; what you actually pay per window is written after the measure, before a slat is cut.
